Spring Chic Revisited

"Revisited"

Since my last pastel inspired post, I have found the paint brush in my hand again countless times. Especially over the Easter weekend, I kept finding new things to paint and my creative mind was in overdrive.

We bought 2 of the famous RAST drawers from IKEA a few years ago, (check them out on google or Pinterest, people redesign them and there are so many different variations!) I wanted to repaint mine as they were looking very sad :(. My first idea was to paint the individual doorknobs different pastel colours (yep the obsession continues..). Here is a picture of them all painted they literally look edible!

Below is one of the RAST drawers completed, I painted the whole thing in Farrow and Ball 'Charleston Grey' (taking advantage of the Homebase 15% easter weekend discount). They are exactly what I had in mind and I love them!

An overview of the 2 cupboards in place. I bought the two bases of the lamps at a car boot sale for £1.50 each, found the lampshades in B&Q for around £4 each and decorated them with the pom-pom trim which was £1.10 a metre.
I think that's what they call a bargain!

"Pretty Easter Bouquet"

I couldn't be more in love with this Cath Kidston bedding if I tried, it is so bright and happy and adds a great focal point to the room.

"Kitchen Loveliness"

I would personally much rather eat a delicious piece of cake from a lovely vintage plate like these than a mass produced boring white plate! I bagged these at a carboot sale for a total of 50p...yes thats right..for all 6!!

Hurrah!!

....and now for the food....

"My name is Lucy and I love cake"

Lemon and raspberry loaf cake (and a cheeky cupcake shown below = chef benefits!)

I was snacking on these marshmallows while writing my last blog post and they just looked so pretty on my less than 10p plate I couldn't help but photograph them.

The photo below was taken on Good Friday, celebrating the brand new shiny car that is going to take pride of place in my life!

And may I say Colin you were extra yummy this year!

Cheeky little easter nests I made before easter <3

My last picture today is of some of my favourite kitchen items, I will always love my Cath Kidston crockery and the popcorn pot was £4.99 from tkmaxx :)

Thanks for reading lovely! <3

Handmade Statement Necklace

"Handmade Statement Necklace"

I was inspired to make a statement necklace from the different styles I have seen lately in Zara and Accessorize. These include different textures, layers and colours. Unfortunately they seem to be around £20-£30 which is crazy, so with my background in jewellery and the things I had lying around, I attempted to make my own.

Below is my final design. I weaved some delicate white lace between two strips of chain and then attached the semi precious stones and the small gems hanging down to add another layer.

I was super pleased with the way it turned out, I think the colours and textures go really well together, it looks cute with shirts and makes a boring t-shirt look more dressy.

It's even better because it didn't cost me anything!!

Spring Chic

With the arrival of Spring I wanted to add some colour into my new home and revamp some rather sad looking furniture that has been knocking around for a while. I had pieces that have been passed through the family and others I've found at car boot sales, but they didn't really work together because they were all different colours.

I used some Farrow and Ball paint my mum had lying around, as well as making the most of the 3 for 2 offer on tester paint pots in B&Q and restyled everything in one day!  It just shows that with one spare day and a few pennies (literally) to spare you can redesign your space and add a bit of happiness and colour into your life :)

The paint pots I picked up and with 3 of them free they only came to £6.60! I'm going with a pastel theme as I seem to have a lot of pastel coloured things and they are perfect for spring time.

The stool was already a mint green colour that I painted about 2 years ago, but I was bored of the whole thing one colour, so used the Farrow and Ball paint in Manor House Grey to do the base and then repainted the top in mint green. I'm really pleased with this and would be super easy to repaint the top a different colour when i get fed up of mint green! I also picked up the palm for £10 in the reduced section of the garden centre in B&Q.

BEFORE AND AFTER

I bought this chair 2 years ago for £10 with the view to up cycling it and I just never got around to doing it! Since we've just moved house and bought a new grey sofa, I decided to paint the chair to match. Using the Manor House Grey I gave it 3 coats. I have never liked the cushions it originally came with so I changed the cushions and I couldn't be more pleased with it! It looks so much fresher and isn't an eye sore anymore..result!!

I gave the lamp (shown above) a lick of paint as it was all cream before and it was looking so tatty and unloved. I continued with the Manor House Grey so it matched with the other items and painted the lamp shade a pastel yellow.

This is an over sized paper neck piece that I made 2-3 years ago and I just adore it so much. It was just hanging around upstairs and as it fits with the pastel theme I've brought it downstairs and it looks perfect. (I'm going to paint the top and the base grey too when i get 5 minutes).

I was inspired to make these after watching Essie Button on YouTube, they are just old food cans that would normally get chucked away, but painting them means they can add a splash of colour to a shelf very inexpensively.

Pretty tulips from the market in Leeds. Fresh flowers instantly improve my mood and always help to promote positive thinking.

These adorable little glasses were 50p each from IKEA. I am in love there is nothing else to say!

I love displaying my beautiful teapots and this particular one was my grandma's which makes it even more special. I love the little pastel touches too which fits in perfectly.

This teapot is inspired by a hot air balloon and sits pride of place on my shelf. This was also my grandma's so is very dear to me.

Overall I am very pleased with how I spent my Monday because now everything looks so new and fresh and I feel like there is now some continuity amongst my living room furniture.

I hope this inspires you to pick up a paint brush and add some spring colour to your home, even if it's just something really small I guarantee it will make you happy :)

Reverse Shampooing..Does it work?

"Reverse Shampooing"

I read about this new hair trend online last week and it promised to add volume to your hair as well as making it feel super clean. I don't particularly need more volume in my hair as its crazy curly but extra clean is always good and I was interested to try it.

When i get home from work that night I tested it out with my recent purchases from Boots. It felt very wrong to do what I've been doing for the last 25 years backwards but I went with the flow.

I used the Herbal Essences Moroccan My Shine (with Moroccan argan oil) conditioner FIRST, I used it all over my hair where normally I would just condition the ends. I'll be honest it felt pretty grim at this point but I left it there for 5 minutes.
Then I rinsed it out and continued to wash my hair with the Moroccan My Shine Shampoo.

This was honestly, the best thing I've ever done! My hair felt ridiculously clean and light and bouncy which is perfect for my curls as there was no residue from the conditioner weighing them down. My hair felt so much softer than it usually does and was just as soft the next day!

If you haven't already tried this..go do it now!! Its revolutionary!
